Ken Byars

Welcome to my world of Fantasy. A world where majik abounds, where heroes, and heroines are not who you would expect. Where honour is important and grief hurts as much in the story as in real life. Join me as we explore the worlds, and lives of my characters as they come alive on the pages.

I have lived in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada since May 1993, and have never left. Due to health reasons, I retired from active employment in July 1995.

My biggest accomplishment in life is a wonderful wife of 34 years and 2 fantastic ladies, 26, & 29. My experience in the military has taken me to all four coasts in Canada, allowing me to see this great country of ours from coast to coast to coast.

I write to entertain myself, and if by chance I can entertain you, the reader at the same time then I have reached my ultimate goal. My stories all take on a life of their own. I usually know where they are going to start, and where they are going to end, but like the adventures I used to take on my motorcycle, it is the journey to get there that makes them exciting. The twists and turns and rabbit holes we run along. The dead ends we reach and the sudden change in direction all make the adventure exciting, riveting and attention grabbing. I hope I can convey that to you, the reader.

Facebook_coverFantasy is not all I write. I do dabble with some Science Fiction, see the Dragon Slayer excerpt, as well as a few short stories. Every year I participate in NaNoWriMo and the novel Dragon Slayer is the result of last years event, 2011. In 2010 I wrote a Sci-fi/fantasy story called Loq’rims Gambit. I have been toying with the idea of offering it for free from this website.

What does the future hold?

Each novel, story or series is designed to introduce you to a new set of characters, a new world and a new set of problems. I have a couple of projects that I have been working that keep me busy writing and editing.

Whose Cup is This? – a series that starts with 5 short stories introducing the readers to them before the main story starts. Watch for them here on this site.

The Eye of Zul Saga – Finally my dream has been completed! Ten long years from start to finish, 6 books and a story that evolved and took on a life of its own. I have mixed feelings at the completion of the series. Yes I am glad it is finished but sad that my characters have completed their journey. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have written it.
